1- Monster seemed cool, if you could see it. Acting not bad not great. Just a series of events with no story – the usual “deep” rubbish. I’m sure there’s some grand overture about grief and relationships and etc etc. I can read a book written by professionals for deeper meanings of grief. If you can’t translate those meanings into motion then you’d better have a good story – or apparently not a story at all as seems be the case with many films these days. AMBIGUITY IS NOT A STORY – A FILM IS NOT A MOVIE WITHOUT A STORY. It’s just collections of thoughts. Everyone has thoughts big deal – tell a story! What a disappointing horror movie season. First Beezle now this. Lame lame lame.
2- I’m a horror fanatic. Nothing scares me anymore and we haven’t seen anything new since the Blair Witch killed those kids or since the grudge claimed the lives of all those people. What I look for in horror is a good story and good acting. This movie had good acting for sure although the story line was a little dry at times. Julia Brown is great at playing the mental breakdown character living out her grief. The movie was very literal in that the fear and horror came from an actual ET. I watched all the way through so it kept me at least entertained until it was over. The ending was really abrupt and I wanted a little more so it felt a little rushed. They also didn’t really do well at explaining what happened to the dad and I thought that was weird. Its basically a 4-5 star movie that’s worth at least one watch if your out of things to watch.
