In Scream, they grabbed a bunch of twentysomethings like they always did. I would like for some originality and connecting one of them to the original movie is not actually that original. If I have a suggestion, I would make Richie the lead. Here’s my pitch. He reveals that his real name is Jack Quaid and he’s killing as Ghostface. His former movie star parents, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, have pushed him too far. It would be great to have them do a cameo as his creepy old parents. He has cracked under the pressure of chasing Hollywood fame and sees killing as the best way to gain that fame.
The best aspect of this movie is this franchise’s ability to reference its movie nature. The second half is the better half. The first half has to spend its time introducing the new cast. It’s actually kind of boring. The second half starts having fun with the premise and that’s the better half. It starts with a shocking death and a fun return. Sidney is being extra. The movie levels up. This may not be as crowd pleasing as Ghostbusters but it is doing something more.
