1- I didn’t read the books nor did I play the games so it was all new for me. I read in some reviews people comparing it to Game Of Thrones but other than being it a medieval costume fantasy story there is nothing comparable to it. It’s a totally different story, very entertaining if you are into that kind of stuff, which I am, with a lot of weird creatures, bizarre characters, and good battles. The two main characters are played by Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra. Henry Cavill is perfect for that role, the rest of the cast are all contributing to a good new show, that will definitely have a lot of fans, a bit like GOT and probably the same fans. I can’t wait to watch another season, hopefully the quality remains at the same level as the first season and then we’re up for much more seasons, hopefully…
2- This is not a very good production, but is what it is, a production for a streaming site, not a blockbuster Hollywood production. Episode 1 does little to set the stage or provide context for a “who’s who”. Characters appear, names are dropped but the viewer has no idea of who they are or their role in the series. So, it’s slow going until the plot eventually unfolds. The lead actor has decided that his character should speak in a breathless voice, punctuated by a series of grunts as if trying to have a bowel movement. Audio is pretty bad, and subtitles are necessary for even a native speaker of English. There’s a lot of mumbling and whispering, and the occasional break in the audio. I’m guessing this was done on the cheap in one of the Slavic countries where production costs are minimal. As mentioned in previous reviews, the editing is atrocious, The scenes and episodes go back and forth in time to the point of confusion. The script, acting and writing is beyond horrible.
This genre is currently popular with a younger audience because of its relationship to video games. I guess that is definitely the target audience for this series. It has been hyped for marketing far beyond its actual level or deserved rating! A second season would be a waste of money.
